To craft the perfect cup of high flavanol hot chocolate, begin with selecting high-quality dark chocolate or unsweetened cacao powder, ideally with 70% cacao content or higher, as this ensures a rich flavanol content. Here’s a simple yet delightful recipe.

  • Total Time: 6 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • Two tbsp. High quality dark chocolate or unsweetened cacao
  • One cup of milk (your choice of milk/dairy-free alternative)
  • Honey, coconut sugar, or maple syrup to taste
  • Optional: Pinch of cinnamon
  • Optional: 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • Optional: Whipped Cream

Instructions

  1. Heat one cup of milk (or a dairy-free alternative like almond, hazelnut or coconut milk for a gluten-free option) in a saucepan over medium heat. Watch that the milk doesn’t boil.
  2. Add two tablespoons of the dark chocolate or cacao powder.
  3. Sweeten with a tablespoon of honey, coconut nectar, maple syrup, or golden monk fruit according to taste.
  4. Enhance flavor with a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  6. Pour into your favorite mug and and  top with a little whipped cream. Enjoy♥️.

Notes

This recipe combines the health benefits of high flavanol chocolate with the comfort of a warm, soothing beverage. Look for products labeled as high in cacao content and low in added sugars to maximize health benefits.
