St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with some fun-filled activities the whole family can enjoy? Whether you’re Irish or just Irish at heart, there are plenty of ways to get into the spirit of this festive holiday.
Celebrate with fun Recipes
I loved cooking fun, gluten-free recipes that were full of the color green for my girls when they were young. There are so many yummy foods you can try out this week to celebrate but here are a few of my favorites:
- Green Potato Leek Soup: Green Potato Leek Soup is the perfect complement to your Saint Patrick’s Day menu! We’ve added parsnips and leafy greens to make this puree loaded with added nutritional benefit!
- Green Spinach and Chicken Enchiladas: So delicious if you’re craving some Mexican food this week!
- Meat or Vegetable Stuffed Cabbage Rolls: Meat or Vegetable Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a delicious way to please both Paleo and plant based eaters! This recipe for Traditional Stuffed Cabbage Rolls is a family heirloom passed down from my Nana to my mom and then me.
Celebrate by reading fun books!
When my girls were young, I would read them fun books to celebrate. Some of our favorites included Green Eggs and Ham or How to Catch a Leprechaun! It’s a great way to get your kids reading and excited about the fun holiday.
Other fun ideas:
- 1. Wear Green from Head to Toe: Start the day off right by decking yourselves out in green attire from head to toe. From green hats and shirts to shamrock accessories, everyone in the family can get in on the fun and show off their Irish spirit.
- 2. Cook Up Some Irish Delights: Get the kids involved in the kitchen and whip up some traditional Irish dishes together. From hearty stews and shepherd’s pie to soda bread and Irish soda bread, there are plenty of delicious recipes to try. You can even get creative with green-themed treats like shamrock cookies or green pancakes for breakfast.
- 3. Host a St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Create your own mini parade at home with the kids. Dress up in costumes, decorate some wagons or bikes with shamrocks and streamers, and parade around the neighborhood together. Don’t forget to blast some Irish music and wave your homemade flags as you march!
- 4. Get Crafty with Shamrock Crafts: Set up a crafting station and let the kids get creative with some St. Patrick’s Day-themed crafts. From shamrock wreaths and leprechaun hats to rainbow bracelets and pot of gold paintings, there are endless possibilities for fun and festive projects.
- 5. Hunt for Leprechaun Treasure: Organize a scavenger hunt around the house or backyard and send the kids on a quest to find the leprechaun’s hidden treasure. Hide gold coins, chocolate coins, and other treats around the house, and watch as the kids search high and low for their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
- 6. Watch an Irish Movie: Wind down after a day of festivities with a family movie night featuring classic Irish films like “The Secret of Kells,” “Song of the Sea,” or “Leap Year.” Snuggle up with some popcorn and enjoy a cozy evening together watching these heartwarming tales.
- 7. Share Irish Stories and Legends: Gather around the fireplace or cozy up in bed and share some Irish folklore and legends with the kids. From tales of leprechauns and banshees to stories of brave warriors and mythical creatures, there’s no shortage of captivating stories to entertain and inspire.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your family and create cherished memories together. So put on your greenest attire, embrace the luck of the Irish, and enjoy a day filled with fun, laughter, and love. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
