Mediterranean Lamb Meatballs have been on repeat in our kitchen this summer! Served warm over a crisp Greek salad, they make a light, nourishing meal for those hot, hot days when you want something satisfying without feeling weighed down.
They’re also delicious served over Veggie Pesto Rice—also known as Simple Green Rice—filled with seasonal chopped vegetables. You can find the original rice recipe in my cookbook, Damn Good Gluten Free. Both combinations are colorful, flavorful, and easy enough for a busy weeknight.
Whether your family is heading back to school, back to work, or simply settling into a new routine, these Mediterranean Lamb Meatballs will delight and nourish everyone at the table.
A Mediterranean-Inspired Way of Eating
We’ve been hearing about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet for years—and for good reason. It emphasizes simple, fresh, whole-food ingredients, including:
- Plenty of colorful vegetables
- Fresh herbs and spices
- Beans and lentils
- Whole grains
- Fresh meat and fish
- Olive oil and other nourishing fats
One of the things I love most about this style of eating is that the vegetables, grains, and salads are the true stars of the meal. The meatballs aren’t meant to take over the plate. They’re the supporting star, adding flavor, protein, and satisfaction to a meal already filled with colorful plants.
This is how I love to build a plate: begin with the vegetables, add a salad or wholesome grain, and finish it with a moderate portion of quality protein.
What Makes These Lamb Meatballs So Flavorful?
These gluten-free lamb meatballs are seasoned with Herbes de Provence, fresh onion, garlic, salty feta or Pecorino Romano, and freshly ground pepper.
As you mix everything together, you’ll notice how fragrant the lamb becomes. That beautiful aroma from the herbs and garlic lets you know something delicious is on the way!
Lamb pairs especially well with Mediterranean flavors. The fresh herbs, garlic, cheese, and olive oil give these meatballs plenty of flavor without requiring a complicated sauce or lengthy preparation.

Two Delicious Ways to Serve Mediterranean Lamb Meatballs
Over a Greek Salad
For a light meal on a hot day, serve the meatballs slightly warm over a Greek salad filled with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, olives, and feta. Dressing, either a Simple Red Wine vinaigrette or our favorite is Annie’s Addictive shallot Dressing
Add your favorite vinaigrette or serve the salad with our creamy Dairy-Free Tzatziki. The contrast between the warm, savory meatballs and the cool, crunchy vegetables is simply delicious.
Over Veggie Pesto Rice
For a heartier meal, serve the meatballs over Simple Green Rice or Veggie Rice tossed with pesto and seasonal chopped vegetables.
Use whatever looks freshest at the farmers market or grocery store. Zucchini, broccoli, asparagus, peas, spinach, peppers, and fresh herbs can all work beautifully. This is a wonderful way to use the vegetables you already have and make the recipe your own.

These fragrant, gluten-free lamb meatballs are delicious served over a Greek salad, Veggie Pesto Rice, noodles, or mashed butternut squash.
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: Approximately 30 small-to-medium meatballs 1x
Ingredients
- 1 to 1 1/4 pounds grass-fed ground lamb
- 1/4 cup finely minced red onion; brown onion will also work
- 2 teaspoons or more Herbes de Provence
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon garlic granules, or 1 to 2 fresh garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup crumbled sheep’s or goat’s milk feta, or grated Pecorino Romano
- 1 extra-large egg
- 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
- Freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup olive oil, for searing
Instructions
- Add the lamb, onion, Herbes de Provence, garlic, cheese, egg, salt, and pepper to a large bowl. Gently blend the ingredients together until evenly combined.
- Form the mixture into golf-ball-sized meatballs.
- Heat a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the olive oil. Once the pan and oil are hot, carefully add the meatballs.
- Cover and brown the meatballs for approximately 2 minutes per side, rotating them until browned on all sides and cooked through. This will take approximately 6 minutes total, depending on their size.
- Serve the meatballs warm over a Greek salad, mashed butternut squash, goat-buttered noodles, or Veggie Pesto Rice.
- Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container.
Notes
When you mix the ingredients together, the lamb should smell wonderfully fragrant from all the herbs and seasonings.
When serving these meatballs over a salad, I prefer them slightly warmed—not piping hot. This keeps the salad fresh and crisp while still giving you that delicious contrast between the warm meatballs and cool vegetables.
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes
